About Us

This project is a collaborative effort involving experts from the Department of Optics at the University of Granada , working alongside those responsible for historical archives in Granada.

We also have partners from the Department of Analytical Chemistry and the Group of Science and Culture of Heritage at UGR.

Color Imaging Lab

ana-belen-lopez Ana Belén López Baldomero (PhD candidate at the Color Imaging Lab (University of Granada))

Ana Belén is a Ph.D. candidate at the Color Imaging Lab (University of Granada). She obtained her B.Sc. in Optics and Optometry in 2019 at the University of Granada, where she also obtained both her M.Sc. in Clinical Optometry and Advanced Optics in 2020, and her M.Sc. in Physics in 2021. Currently her research focuses on the acquisition and analysis of hyperspectral images to identify materials in historical documents and artworks.

fran Francisco Moronta (PhD student in HYPERDOC project)

Francisco Moronta Montero is a graduate Physicist at the University of Granada with a master's degree in Laser Physics and Technology at the University of Salamanca. He is now a PhD student in our HYPERDOC project. His research interests are spectral imaging and machine learning applications in Optics.

romero Javier Romero Mora (Head of the Color Imaging Lab)

Javier Romero is Full Professor at the Department of Optics of the University of Granada. His recent research interests include color and multispectral image processing and computational color vision. He teaches several subjects at B.Sc. and master level, including courses in the Erasmus+ Joint Master Degree COSI (Computational Colour and Spectral Imaging). He was President of the International Color Association (AIC) from 2014 to 2015. At present, he is the Past-President of the AIC.

jnieves Juan Luis Nieves Gómez (Full Professor at the Optics Department of the University of Granada)

Juan Luis is Full Professor at the Optics Department of the University of Granada since 2017. His research revolves around computational color vision (color constancy, human visual system processing of spatio-chromatic information), and spectral analysis of color images (including spectral analysis of reflectances and illuminants). Currently he is the coordinator at UGR of the Erasmus+ JMD Master COSI (Computational Colour and Spectral Imaging), and past President of the Spanish Color Committee (Comité del Color, SEDOPTICA, Spain)

miguelangel Miguel Angel Martínez Domingo (Assistant Professor at the Department of Optics of university of Granada)

Miguel Ángel is Assistant Professor at the Department of Optics of university of Granada since 2020. His recent research interests are color and spectral imaging, color vision, HDR imaging, image processing and IR imaging, all applied to image dehazing, cultural heritage, color vision defficiencies, and other scientific, industrial or engineering applications. He is involved in teaching different courses in the B.S. degrees of Optics and Optometry, and the CIMET/COSI Erasmus Mundus international master program

javierha Javier Hernández-Andrés (Full Professor at the Department of Optics of the University of Granada)

Javier is Full Professor at the Department of Optics of the University of Granada since 2016. His recent research interests include hyperspectral imaging, spectral estimation, HDR Imaging, color and spectral image processing, dehazing as well as color vision deficiencies. He teaches several subjects at B.Sc. and master level, including courses in the Erasmus+ JMD COSI (Computational Colour and Spectral Imaging). He has published more than 60 scientific papers and has a h-index of 22 (Google Scholar). From 2008 to 2012 he was the coordinator at UGR of the Erasmus Mundus Master CIMET (Color in Informatics and Media Technology). Currently he is Associate Editor for Optics Express, and member of the Editorial Board for Color Research and Applications and for the European Journal of Physics.

alain-tremeau Alain Trémeau (Professor in Computer Vision at the Université Jean Monnet)

Alain Trémeau is Professor in Computer Vision at the Université Jean Monnet – Saint-Etienne, France. He is affiliated to the laboratory Hubert Curien (UMR CNRS 5516). Among various research projects he participated, some are related to computer vision and machine learning. He wrote numerous scientific papers and book chapters, in the domain of “Computational Colour Imaging” and of “Computer Vision” in the highest ranked journal and conferences in the domain.

My research is focused on the development and application of analytical methods for the characterization and study of degradation of the materials that make up Cultural Heritage and those used for their restoration in order to adapt improvements for the conservation of these works of art.

Ph.D. degree in Geology at the University of Granada (UGR), Spain (1998). Tenured Professor at the Dept. of Mineralogy and Petrology at the UGR. Scientific expertise in characterization of historical/archaeological materials and their degradation, particularly paintings and ceramics. Since 2001 she teaches “Analytical Techniques” in the Faculty of Fine Art in the UGR.

Fine Art Conservation and Restoration degree in 1989, and PhD in Conservation of Graphic Documents in 1992. Academic staff member at the Department of Painting (University of Granada). I’ve focused on conserving graphic documents, collaborating on projects with the Spanish Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and the Archive of the Royal Chancellery, Granada. Currently serving as the Director for Conservation and Restoration at the University of Granada.

Ana López-Montes obtained a B.D. in Fine Arts specialization on Restoration (2001), Ph.D. in Fine Arts (2006) and Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry (2015) at the University of Granada. She carried out her post-doctoral stays in IRAMAT-CNRS and in CRC-CNRS (France). She has worked at the Department of Painting at the University of Granada as Associate Professor from 2019.
