romero Javier Romero Mora (Head of the Color Imaging Lab)

Javier Romero is Full Professor at the Department of Optics of the University of Granada. His recent research interests include color and multispectral image processing and computational color vision. He teaches several subjects at B.Sc. and master level, including courses in the Erasmus+ Joint Master Degree COSI (“Color in Science and Industry”). He was President of the International Color Association (AIC) from 2014 to 2015. At present, he is the Past-President of the AIC.

jnieves Juan Luis Nieves Gómez

Juan Luis is Associate Professor at the Optics Department of the University of Granada since 2001. His research revolves around computational color vision (color constancy, human visual system processing of spatio-chromatic information), and spectral analysis of color images (including spectral analysis of reflectances and illuminants). Currently he is the coordinator at UGR of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (JMD) CIMET (Color in Informatics and Media Technology) and Erasmus+ JMD Master COSI (Color in Science and Industry). He is also President of the Spanish Color Committee (Comité del Color, Spain).

javierha Javier Hernández-Andrés

Javier is Full Professor at the Department of Optics of the University of Granada since 2016. His recent research interests include hyperspectral imaging, spectral estimation, HDR Imaging, color and spectral image processing as well as atmospheric optics. He teaches several subjects at B.Sc. and master level, including courses in the Erasmus+ Joint Master Degree COSI (”Color in Science and Industry”). He has published more than 50 scientific papers and has a h-index of 14. From 2008 to 2012 he was the coordinator at UGR of the Erasmus Mundus Master CIMET (Color in Informatics and Media Technology).

eva Eva Valero Benito

Eva is Associate Professor at the Department of Optics of the University of Granada. Her recent research interests include hyperspectral imaging, spectral estimation, HDR Imaging, and color and spectral image processing. She is involved in teaching several subjects in the B.S. degrees of Physics, Optics and Optometry, and the CIMET/COSI international master program.

miguelangel Miguel Angel Martínez Domingo

Miguel Ángel is a Post-doc researcher working on design and optimization of a portable multispectral high dynamic range imaging system in the visible and near-infrared, for segmentation of common objects present in urban scenes. His research interests are in the field of high dynamic range imaging, spectral imaging, digital image processing and analysis, color and spectral sciences, machine/deep learning, vision, etc.

JuanOjeda Juan Ojeda

Juan Ojeda is currently working on his PhD thesis entitled “Statistic information analysis of natural and artificial scenes under different illuminations”.

His supervisor is Prof. Juan Luis Nieves.

His intention is to finish his PhD thesis by 2018.

Sergi Sergi Etchebehere

Sergi Etchebehere is a researcher currently working on detection and classification of salient objects in hyperspectral images. His research interests are spectral image processing and analysis and use of machine learning techniques in computer vision.

Former members

MALopez Miguel Angel López-Alvarez

Miguel Ángel López-Alvarez joined our lab in 2004 and obtained his Ph.D. in 2007, focusing on multispectral imaging of skylight. He has a vast experience calibrating 2D imaging sensors, simulating noise of CCD/CMOS cameras, and developing spectral estimation algorithms and metrics. He joined HP in 2008 as a color scientist in conventional and 3D printing and scanning, with more than 10 patents gained so far. He has continued collaborating with our lab ever since then, for instance, by presenting a keynote on “Professional opportunities of color scientists” to CIMET in 2012.

timo Timo Eckhard

Timo is a PhD student working on design and optimization of line-scan multi-spectral imaging systems. His research interests are in the field of spectral imaging (acquisition systems and data processing), machine learning, image processing and analysis.

Jia Eckhard is a research assistant working on hyperspectral imaging and data processing of urban scenes. Her research interests are spectral imaging, algorithm design in image processing, machine learning and pattern recognition.

Raúl Luzón-González is a researcher at the Department of Optics of the University of Granada. His recent research interests include color variations in natural scenes, atmospheric optics, and color and spectral image processing.

Clara

Clara Plata Ríos

Clara Plata Ríos obtained her MSc in physics in 2006 and her PhD in 2009, both at the University of Granada, Spain. She was a research student in the Color Imaging Lab at the Department of Optics from 2003 to 2009 in the field of color imaging, sterophotometrics techniques and multispectral devices.

DanielPartal Daniel Partal

Daniel Partal received a M.Sc. degree in physics in 2005 from the University of Granada, Spain. His scientific interests are in the field of spectral color science. He collaborated with the Color Imaging Lab from 2004 to 2006. He is currently professor of Mathematics at a secondary school and web designer.

aida Aida Rodríguez

Aida Rodríguez worked as a research assistant in the Color Imaging Lab from 2010 until 2012 on a project in collaboration with Tecnalia, related to image segmentation of hyperspectral urban scenes. Aida represented the outcomes of her work at the annual Electronic Imaging conference in San Francisco in February 2012. The proceedings article is titled “Modified fuzzy c-means applied to a Bragg-grating-based spectral imager for material clustering”.

Shahram Shahram Peyvandi

Shahram is a postgraduate fellow of visual color perception at Rutgers Univ. He received his PhD degree in color science from Tehran Polytechnic Univ. He spent 6 months on sabbatical at the Color Imaging Lab working on nonlinear inverse model for spectral reconstruction & color correction. His research revolves around computational approach to visual color perception, adaptation, spectral data analysis & color correction. Our collaboration is still working on simulation of outdoor illuminations under different atmospheric conditions and multivariate model of the edge structure in a trichromatic image

Abhinaba Roy Abhinaba

Roy is a Color in Informatics and Media Technology (CIMET) student working towards his masters thesis on Supervised Classification of Tobacco Leaves Using 12-channel Multispectral Image Data. His research interests are broadly in Computer Vision and Machine Learning.
